Scan Week in NYC

Greetings from NYC! Eli and I (Aaron) checked into the Ronald McDonald House really late on Tuesday night (technically Wednesday morning) after taking a Delta flight from Des Moines to Newark via Detroit. Eli is a veteran flier now and is a breeze to travel with. Although I did hear a few complaints that we had to deal with security and take TWO airplanes with a layover instead of taking a private jet directly to New Jersey. Can you say spoiled? I have to admit, I’m just as spoiled as he is. 🙂

Eli had a brain MRI and an MIBG injection yesterday. Today, he had a CT scan, an MIBG scan, and a spine MRI. A pretty full day, but he did great and we’re glad it’s over. Tomorrow he has bone marrow biopsies and that’s it for the day. They moved his Saturday scan to today, so we don’t have to worry about that and it frees us up to go on a trip with the Ronald McDonald House on Saturday, which should be fun.

We found out on Tuesday night that Eli is once again HAMA negative, so we will be staying for the weekend and doing another round of 3F8 antibody treatment next week. Beyond being thrilled that Eli can get in another round of 3F8, I’m glad I don’t have to deal with changing our airline tickets home!

For those of you that were texting and emailing me last week, the flooding in our hometown of Ames was pretty bad, but our house is out in the country NE of town, so we were unaffected. The residents had to find creative ways to get around with many of the main roads closed due to water being over them and they couldn’t drink the water for days because of water main breaks. It was interesting to hear from friends from all over the US that they were seeing Ames on the news.

We don’t have any scan results yet, but I wanted to let everyone know that we arrived safely and that we’ll be doing 3F8 next week. Thanks to everyone for your prayers, especially for good results as we deal with the typical ‘scanxiety’!
