Out and back in

It’s late, so I’ll keep this short.

Eli was released from the hospital today by noon, which was pretty stinking early for a discharge! Unfortunately, it was very short lived. Eli was pretty tired most of the afternoon and we noticed he was warm. By the evening, he was at 101 degrees, so we called and asked if we could give him Tylenol. They discussed it and said to bring him in to Urgent Care so they could get blood cultures, give him a 45 minute antibiotic, and then send him back to the Ronald. It didn’t exactly work out that way. Surgery wanted an xray, and decided it looked a little bit worse than Thursday’s xray. He was also complaining specifically about his left side being sore. So, they decided to keep him overnight and do a stool culture to see if he needs some other antibiotic. We’re not sure how long we will be staying, but surgery has assured me “It won’t be days and days and days, we can send you back to the Ronald with antibiotics if we need to. It should only be a day or two.”
sigh.

So we waited for well over an hour for an escort to bring us up to our bed on the 9th floor. Different room, but we got another private one. The nurse took one look at my shirt and hat (both Cyclones) and said, “You need to take your shirt off.” I was thinking that she was being pretty forward, but she quickly explained that she was a Hawkeye! She was from Dubuque and moved out here 2 years ago to do nursing school at NYU. Needless to say, Eli wasn’t particularly nice to her after hearing she was a Hawkeye. 🙂

So anyway, we are back inpatient and appreciate all of the prayers. It was fun being out for a few hours this afternoon anyway. 🙂
