Ok, I get it. I haven’t posted for a while. Sorry! The good news is that it’s usually because I don’t have much time to update since we’re always hopping after the 3F8 treatments. Eli is in full ‘play’ mode once he wakes up and he is always wanting to check out the playroom, or do crafts at dinner, or whatever is going on, he’s into it. Obviously we’re thrilled about that. Yesterday we spent all afternoon in Central Park, which was great since it was t-shirt weather here. Thank you for all your prayers, I know that has a LOT to do with how well Eli handles the pain and how great he feels all night after the treatment.
The circus this weekend was a blast of course. Eli and his buddy Kieran both got glow in the dark swords. I’m not sure if they saw much of the circus since they spent most of their time sword fighting, but that’s ok. Eli liked the tigers and the guy who rode a motorcycle on the sky wire the best. Here is an animoto video of the highlights:
I also have a slideshow and video of Eli and Kieran playing. They are really a riot together. They love playing, but they also get after each other sometimes when things aren’t going their way. They are like brothers sometimes. The video is a clip of them playing Star Wars together. Kieran started it by saying, “Luke, I am your father” and the conversation went to them killing each other’s fathers within seconds. This conversation has continued for days. 🙂
The pain was definitely back on this week, which we were relieved to see. It has gotten slightly better each day, but it is still very painful for him. He continues to deal with it very well, and now he doesn’t require cold packs, just a hand to squeeze. Don’t tell him he’s doing a great job though, he will adamantly argue that he’s NOT doing a good job. He also continues to ask for his “wrinkly” medicine, which is the Dilaudid that makes kids feel loopy. He’ll argue he didn’t get enough if it doesn’t make him stare off. The nurses say that some kids do in fact get addicted to it, but in actuality, Eli takes a VERY miniscule amount of pain meds compared to most other kids. He has the typical dose of Dilaudid and Benadryl before, and then a quarter of a dose of Dilaudid when the pain hits. That’s it for meds. He takes care of the rest by humming, singing, squeezing our hands, and deep breathing. It’s incredible to watch a 4 year old deal with so much pain like a little adult.
