Enjoying home

I know an update is long overdue. Honestly, there hasn’t been anything earth shattering to write about except that Eli is having an absolute blast being home. The days with Eli are filled with giggles, silliness, orneryness, arguments, laughs, debates, jokes, and everything else that a “normal” family might go through in a day. We’ve hit a milestone in that this is the first time we’ve been home for so long since this all started in the end of June, 2007. And we’re only half way through it!

We have spent time with grandparents, friends, and have seen 3 movies in the theater (Enchanted and Alvin and the Chipmunks at the $1.50 theater and Horton Hears a Who at Cinemark Movies 12 in Ames). This weekend, we’re going to experience another first since June and that is swimming! Eli has been loving his showers at home, but Friday night will be the first time he’s been in a pool in months. Most recently, we’ve been enjoying an amazing Christmas present from a group of friends that got together and bought Eli a huge trampoline.

I have pictures, but before you jump all over me, YES we have a safety enclosure for it, but we didn’t put it up yet since it would just have to come right back down in a week because the wind would certainly do a number on it while we’re gone. SO, Eli only jumps on it with one of us on it with him. His favorite game is “David and Goliath” which he made up. He picks up a pretend stone, puts it in his pretend slingshot, twirls it around and around, then shoots it at Goliath to watch him fall. Anyone want to guess who plays Goliath? 🙂 Oh yeah, and the dog in the picture is Eli’s Boston Terrier “Harley” whom he cherishes and my parents have been watching for us while we’ve been away from home.

I can already tell that we are going to have a hard time dragging Eli back to New York. We brought home a LOT of DVDs and I was packing them into a more portable carrier for our next trip to the city. Eli asked what I was doing and I told him I was packing them up so we could take them all the next time we go to New York, and he said, “Why are we going to New York? I don’t want to go to New York!” I was able to calm him down by assuring him we weren’t leaving anytime soon, but once it’s really time, it will be interesting.

Tomorrow we take Eli in to get a vial of blood drawn for his HAMA test. We’ll get the vial filled, then take it to UPS and have it overnighted to Sloan. Obviously we’ll be praying for a negative HAMA result if God’s will is for us to continue these 3F8 treatments. We’ll also have them do his counts because we haven’t ever gone this long without knowing them. Sloan said not to worry about them the entire time we were home, but since they’ll be accessing him for the HAMA test anyway tomorrow, we’ll have them do counts as well to put our minds at ease. Hopefully they are still great!

Please keep our buddy Coleman Larson in your prayers. He is doing a stem cell transplant in Iowa City and it is really giving him a beating (as expected). He is one tough cookie! Prayers for Coleman and his family would be really appreciated. CarePage Name = ColemanScott

I’ll let you know what we find out when the HAMA results are back!
