Port

We would probably be looking forward to tomorrow more if we didn’t know that next week is going to be a repeat of this week with 5 more days of painful 3F8 treatments, but at least we’ll get a weekend of rest and his port won’t be accessed anymore so he will “feel like a normal boy” as he says. In case I didn’t explain it well before, the port sits under Eli’s skin, and while he’s not getting any treatments, it’s like there is nothing there. When he’s getting treatments, they have to “access” the port by sticking a needle into the port that is connected to a single tube. That line can stay in Monday-Friday and they use that line to administer drugs for the week. When they “access” his port, they put a numbing cream over it for an hour before sticking the needle in, so it’s relatively painless, but there are plenty of tears over it regardless. The days that the port isn’t accessed are what make it all worthwhile. The boy took hour long showers every day that he was allowed before they accessed his port on Monday!

So, that is the update for today. We’re expecting tomorrow to go as well as today if not better. They say Monday will be pretty rough again since his body will have 2 days off over the weekend. As always, thanks for being a Prayer Warrior for Eli!
