We made it! Although once it started to snow Monday night, I was starting to wonder. The Interstate Driving forecast for PA predicted an inch or less by the time we were to reach NY, and they were pretty much right on, so all went well. Slowly in some spots, but for the most part we were able to travel at nearly the 65mph speed limit.
For those wondering about the Creation Museum, it was really very cool. I didn’t realize that it had just opened in 2007, but it definitely looked like a new place. I believe the budget was $27 Million and they did a great job building an impressive place. Although Eli liked the dinosaurs (of course) and the Garden of Eden setup (his favorite part was the serpent tempting Eve) and Noah’s Ark (where they had animatronic guys working on the ark), his favorite part was the Special Effects Theatre with the vibrating seats and the spraying mist. The show was a satire that was poking some fun at critics of young earth creation. I read a joke that the Creation Museum was a Disneyland for young earth creationists. 🙂 I’m not sure about that, but it was definitely a lot of fun. I would recommend it to anyone, even if you are an old earth creationist or have enough faith to believe in Godless evolution, it definitely has some great exhibits and plenty to think about. A very big thank you to Arlice (and Bob of course) who called ahead Monday morning and got us in on their lifetime membership along with a gift certificate for the gift shop and cafeteria. When we got there, all the staff already knew about the family on their way to get treatments in NY and they asked about Eli and mentioned how they would be praying for him. They also gave us complimentary photos and a walkthrough picture book. I’ll have to find a good way to upload those photos from the printouts because they are pretty fun. 🙂 We got there at 10am and left around 2pm, which was just the right amount of time to get through everything. If you don’t take a nearly 4 year old and a nearly 5 month old, you might have more time to read each exhibit in more depth. Here’s a video I made:
I am inspired by Coleman’s mom, Peggy, who is faithful to include the absolutely hilarious things he and his brother Caden say and do throughout the week. She has also shown that no topic is off limits, so I’ll throw in an Eli quote that I hope will make you laugh. One night when we were at home, Eli was sitting on his little toilet and I was sitting behind the door making jokes. At one point, I opened the door and Eli was looking up, grinning, and mouthing something. I asked him what he was saying, and he laughed and said nothing. Then he looked up, grinning, and started mouthing something again. I laughed and asked him again what he was saying. Again he grinned and said, “Nothing.†This happened a few more times and finally he confessed, “I was praying for my poop.†When you tell a 3 year old that you can pray about anything, be prepared to be taken quite literally. Through my fits of laughter I asked him what for and he said, “So it will come out.†Then, being quite pleased with himself for getting his daddy laughing so hard, he said, “Do you think God thinks that’s funny?†I said, “Eli, I promise you that God thinks you’re funny.†I guess God answered his prayer, because soon after he was done and we were back to watching movies.
