Eli continues to do well. He is really eating and drinking a lot. In fact, I will probably start requesting they wean him off the nutrition as he really doesn’t need it and if he’s on it too long it can affect his liver functions. His counts are STILL at 0.1, even though I had the doctors increase the amount of neupogen we give him to increase those white blood cells! We’re hoping for a cell growth explosion in the next few days.
Last night, during a routine temperature check, they caught a 38.0 degree (Celsius) fever. That is an automatic two day antibiotic sentence. So, no matter what his counts do, we are here until at LEAST Wednesday doing the antibiotics and waiting for the blood culture results.
Today consisted of watching movies, decorating cardboard bow ties (maybe Roger Underwood would wear one if I saved it for him), playing the Wii, and lots of eating. I love watching Evan Almighty with Eli lately. Eli doesn’t really laugh out loud at movies too much (even if he finds them funny, he’ll just say “Here comes my favorite part”). However, whenever we watch Evan Almighty, there are parts that get giggles and even silent big smiles, which are somewhat rare around here, despite what you might think based on the latest pictures I’ve been posting. He also makes sure I’m watching when MY favorite parts come up (like when Evan is praying and he finishes with “God Bless…well…you…” and jumps back into bed or when he finds ‘God’ sitting in the back seat of his Hummer.) By far, Eli’s favorite part is when Evan is building the ark with his sons and keeps hurting himself. It’s just nice to have some laugh out loud moments around here sometimes.
Also today, we were pleasantly surprised to get new neighbors in the hospital. Our buddy Kieran (who just had the brain surgery done on Thursday to remove that nickel sized Neuroblastoma tumor relapse) got moved out of the POU (Pediatric Observation Unit) and into the private room right next door! He showed off his cool head scar and Sponge Bob bandaid when I said hi. It blows my mind how much of a quick recovery a kid that just had brain surgery can have. Thanks to everyone who has been praying for Kieran.
Not to wear out my “prayer request welcome” (assuming that’s even possible), but Tuesday morning (technically today) Lacey’s Grandma Betty is going to have very high risk heart surgery. It will be a stressful day for the family, so your prayers would be once again appreciated.
Feel free to drop Eli a voicemail as we haven’t had any new ones in a while. When he’s couped up in a private hospital room is one of the best times to leave him one as it gives him something to look forward to!
