You all can add “Delizia†to your list of restaurants you HAVE to visit when you come to the city. It’s at 1374 First Avenue and is right around the corner from the Ronald McDonald house. We sat next to this old couple that had been married and living in NY for 50 years. The guy told us that this was the best Italian place outside of Italy and that the salads were so fresh you’d swear the garden was out back. I think we would agree. Eli actually has a review of this place (even though he didn’t eat any of his spaghetti.) He said, “Wow, they make really good bread here.†He was right, it was really good Italian bread. Based on the old guy’s suggestion, Lacey got the Eggplant Parmigiana. This isn’t your Olive Garden Eggplant. In true Italian fashion, it wasn’t breaded, it was thin slices of Eggplant, piled high and covered in marinara and cheese. VERY good. I had one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. Calamari Marinara. The sauce was amazing and the Calamari was fantastic. After explaining what Calamari was to Eli, I couldn’t get him to try it, go figure. 🙂 He didn’t last too long at the restaurant before falling asleep.

They were surprised to see us to say the least. As expected, we had a fantastic visit and it made coming to New York feel more like coming to visit family. They had a good time doting over Eli and laughing at how I pronounced Delizia. Barbara even came with us this morning to play with Eli while he waited for his appointment to get the fluids started in preparation for chemo tomorrow. So, from the Ronald McDonald House in NYC, have a great night and please pray that Eli does well during (and after) this round of high dose cytoxin. Most of all, that it will be effective in getting rid of the cancer in his bone marrow!
