Day 1 of 4 day chemo is done. I have to say, taking home a backpack full of chemo that runs 24×7 for 3 days straight is weird, but also very cool. Who would have predicted a year ago that I would be saying that bringing home a backpack full of chemo was very cool? Ok, well you’ve all been following along for this long, you know where I’m coming from. You can’t help but be a little nervous in case something goes wrong or a pump stops or something, but that’s what the urgent care number is for and the fact that the hospital is 5 blocks away is comforting. However, the fact that we only have to be there from 8am-5:30pm and then get to spend the rest of the evening playing at the RMcD House and sleeping in nice beds can’t be beat!
When we left today, they were nice enough to loan us a wheelchair because we had 3 bags full of stuff and Eli was too tired to walk on his own. Ok, who am I kidding, he never likes to walk down the street. 🙂 We stopped by KFC on the way to the house (he’s been asking for Chicken on the Bone for two days). The kid behind the counter started telling me about his sister who had leukemia and then people in the line started commenting on Sloan and how great it was. They definitely have a good rep around here. Eli draws more attention in this city from complete strangers on the street than I ever would have imagined. You’d think they were used to seeing bald kids around here. Maybe it’s his accent. 🙂
Ok, it’s being confirmed that at least some people enjoy the cuisine review. However, at the risk of disappointing the public, I’m afraid today was cafeteria food and KFC. I can tell you to avoid the burgers and sweet potato fries if you are ever at MSKCC in NYC and that KFC should check Webster’s definition of “Large†and relabel their popcorn chicken boxes…
When we got to the RMcD House dining room to eat our KFC, there was yet another Halloween party going on, so Eli got some party favors. The biggest hit was the vampire teeth!

Everyone!†Ok, so I asked him to say it again so I could get it on video and that could be considered “promptedâ€, but he did a good job reenacting the event:
How can you pass that up? 🙂 Also, as an added bonus, now when you call you’ll hear Eli asking you to leave a message since he recorded the greeting tonight. Here are more topic ideas for you in case you want to leave him a message but don’t know what to talk about (the Spiderman references are always a big hit): Talk about how cute Uno is, tell him he looks scary in his Vampire teeth, make sure you tell him where you live so he can ask me where that is :-), talk about the Cyclones or the Hawkeyes and who you cheer for, say something about New York, tell him some of the things you thank God for… Even if it’s a 10 second voicemail, he just likes getting them. I’m not exaggerating when I say this is his favorite part of the day. Every time I get a new voicemail notification, we listen to it right away.
