Just wanted to let everyone know that we arrived safe and sound for our first day of scans in NYC. Actually, I hesitate to call it scan(s) because it was really only one scan today. Eli had a brain MRI at 12:30pm and then a quick MIBG injection (takes 30 seconds) at 2:30pm. That was it for today! Tomorrow we do an MIBG scan at 8am, bone marrows at 9:30am (this is where they put him to sleep and take out two samples from his back hip bones and two samples from the front), CT at 2:30pm, and then spine MRI at 3:30pm. I called to see if Eli’s HAMA results were in, but they weren’t in yet, so we probably won’t know the results until tomorrow.
The trip this morning was amazing and we have officially been spoiled. Meredith Corporation participates in Corporate Angels and happened to have a group going to NYC today on their company’s Learjet and another group coming to NYC and heading back home tomorrow on the same plane. So we flew in with a great group of 5 people this morning at 7am. We got to the Meredith Hangar at 6am and waited for everyone to arrive. When it was time, we got in the jet, jumped in some very comfortable seats, got in the air, and 2 hours later were landing. No security, no lines, no layovers, just a direct flight from Des Moines to Teterboro, NJ (just across the river from Manhattan). A town car brought us to the Ronald for $80 (a negotiated 50% discount for Corporate Angels) and we were checked in by 11am. We will be cutting it close tomorrow since our 1 hour MRI starts at 3:30pm and the town car is meeting us at the Ronald at 4:45pm! We will see if they are available to do his MRI any sooner, but hopefully we’ll have time to get to the Ronald and be at Teterboro in time for our 7pm flight. The people from Meredith are amazing for participating with Corporate Angels and we were really thankful to have them because scheduling flights during Thanksgiving week is not only difficult, but VERY expensive. If all goes well, we should be home by late tomorrow night, just in time for Thanksgiving.
We are certainly THANKFUL for all of your prayers. Please don’t forget to remember our other little friends going through scans and treatments at this time. Eli was very excited to see his Iowan friend Dakota and can’t wait for his buddy Griffin to get back from his MRI so they can do about 7 months worth of catching up!
