A plan is forming

Ok, so I have some more information thanks to some more phone calls this morning and a call back from Dr. Kramer. Dr. Kramer said that she talked to Dr. Souweidane and he wants to go ahead and do the surgery to remove the mystery spot next week. He will meet with us tomorrow to go over the details. She said that with something this small, a biopsy and removing it completely are really the same thing.
She also said that Dr. Souweidane should be able to immediately tell if it is Neuroblastoma or not. If it is (and obviously we are praying it isn’t), he will go ahead and install the port in Eli’s head called an Omaya. An Omaya is used to administer the H89 antibody, which is what they use for Neuroblastoma in the head. It works just like the port in his chest, but it would be under the skin on the top of his head. If it isn’t Neuroblastoma, the team will have to discuss what the next steps for Eli should be since he is HAMA positive.

So that is the news for now. I’m sure I’ll have more to share tomorrow after we meet with Souweidane, but I wanted to get this information out there as soon as I knew it because I know that a lot of you are on pins and needles to know more just as we have been.

We are glad to have a plan that doesn’t involve just waiting 30 days and doing another scan, but obviously have plenty of anxiety over the idea of Eli having another major surgery. Thanks for all of the support and prayers. We are praying that we can get on the surgery schedule as soon as possible!
