Yesterday turned out to be a bigger day than we expected. We dutifully arrived 2 hours early for Eli’s surgery. Sure enough, the case before us ended early and they took us in “early”. However, by the time we sent Eli off to surgery, it was 11:45am. At 12:30pm, Dr. Kayton went in and took out Eli’s single stitch that was still in his wound. At 12:45pm, the dental work started. We didn’t get called up to the recovery room until 4:45pm! The dentist ended up working on 19 out of Eli’s 20 teeth! The two back molars had to be removed because they were too far gone to save with crowns. The rest of the teeth got fillings. Poor Eli’s face was so swollen when we saw him. We spent the night swapping out ice packs to help reduce the swelling.
We almost went inpatient because Eli had a fever, but by the time we were ready to go home, it had come down to just below the fever mark, and that is where he has sat since Wednesday evening. We have become crazy about taking his temperature all of the time and it just keeps lingering by the fever mark. I SO don’t want to go inpatient because it’s so hard to get out once you’re in! Eli slept most of the rest of the day yesterday. Today he was up a bit more, but still feeling pretty crummy. We went to the dentist for a checkup and she said that everything looked really good and the swelling had gone down. They are going to make the spacers for him so that his 7 year molars come in spaced correctly, but that is something that will take a few weeks to make and will probably be installed under sedation (not full blown general anethesia like yesterday’s surgery). It is likely that we will install them right before or right after his second round of 3F8.
Prayers that Eli would start feeling better and would be free from an infection would be MUCH appreciated. We got hydration for him for the weekend since he isn’t eating or drinking right now (mouth is so sore he can’t even smile). Poor guy just wants to play with his buddies, but he just doesn’t feel up to it. We went to a nearby park with the Larson boys and he did get out and play in the sand for a few minutes, but wasn’t up for running around like Coleman and Caden. We are just praying for a better day tomorrow. Thank you for joining us!
