The Weekend

This weekend went pretty well! We’ve been continuing to deal with Eli throwing up multiple times a day, but once he does, he’s ready to play and have a good time. We’re just so confused about it. Nobody seems to be overly concerned about it, but we’d like to get it figured out so we don’t have to continue to worry that his bowels aren’t back on track! We might ask for a test or two this week to see if we can get some answers.

Friday’s 3F8 went well and we were out of there in great time. It seemed like every day Eli was recovered from the treatment faster and faster. Dr. LaQuaglia saw Eli’s wound on Friday and decided that it was good enough to stop putting bandages on. It’s still an exposed sore, though, so we have to put an antibiotics cream on it every day and try to keep Eli from getting it wet or dirty. We are thankful for how quickly that wound healed up! Friday night we were going to go to the Cyclones baseball game, but saw that one of our little friends at the house was having a “Good Luck” party before going in for a transplant that night, so we opted to go to that instead without a second thought. That was really fun. Please pray for Michael as he heads in tomorrow morning. We probably won’t see him for a few months as he will be quarantined for having ZERO immunity for quite a while. He is 12 and is heading into a transplant after seeing his 14 year old brother Charlie go through it a year ago. Their 8 year old brother Kyle was the donor for both of them. We have become very close to these boys from the Dominican Republic and they call us Uncle Aaron and Auntie Lacey. They are all great with Eli and they have been helping me brush up on my Spanish. 🙂

Yesterday we got in a charter bus with about 30 other people and took off for Pennsylvania to go to Dorney Park (much like Six Flags Amusement Park). Eli was having a really fun time going on all of the rides he could. A few of them were deemed “too fast” halfway through the ride, but after he got done crying, he told us how brave he was on them. 🙂 Today we went to the Yankees and Royals game. It was really fun, even though the Royals got crushed 15 to 6. I believe the score was 6 to 3 by the second inning, so it was pretty exciting! We got to meet the family that donated the seats as they sat with us and the Yankees donated free hot dogs and sodas for everyone. Eli got to go with his buddy Griffin, so even though he had to throw up halfway through the game (after quite a few false alarms), he had a good time.

We don’t have anything officially scheduled yet this week except the dentist appointment on Thursday, but we know they’ll want a pre-op inspection sometime before then. As long time readers know, Eli had cavities when we started this whole thing back in June of 2007. However, nobody really wanted to mess with his teeth while he was getting chemo and 3F8 treatments since it’s such a susceptible area for infections. A year later, we’re pretty much in a state of emergency as the insides of two of his back teeth are rotted out and the nerves are hurting him quite a bit. They decided to put him under anethesia and dig out the rest of the nerves inside the two teeth and then fill and cap them. In case this doesn’t help with the pain, they are going to measure him for “spacers”. That way, if his teeth have to be removed after all, they will already have measurements for spacers to install (they can’t just yank them or else the seven year molars might not come in correctly). Hopefully this will help with Eli’s teeth pain and will prevent any further damage.

As always, thank you for your prayers!
