Have you ever seen your child pass out because they are in such excruciating pain? I have. I’d also be willing to bet that a couple of parents reading this CarePage have too. I would rank that up there with one of my scariest moments (far exceeding falling backwards off a bungee platform 150′ in the air). Lacey was holding Eli and rocking back and forth while he yelled and all of a sudden I saw his eyes roll back into his head and he became as limp as a rag doll. Thankfully, by the time Lacey finished saying, “Aaron, he just passed out,” he woke up and said, “What? No! What does passed out mean?” We have friends that have had kids stop breathing or their blood pressure and heart rates would go through the roof, but there is nothing like experiencing something like that yourself. I guess it’s redundant to say that Eli had a rough day today. We were prepared for a hard day since Eli had been away from 3F8 for so long (June 20th was the last day we had done 3F8), but the pain seemed to be off the charts today and it lasted about 45 minutes! Eli was screaming and crying that entire time and at one point he said, “I think I am going to be dead.” That made my heart sink. Welcome back to 3F8 treatments.
The weekend went fine. I guess it’s all relative because he is still throwing up twice a day and has continues to have stomach pains. However, at least we aren’t inpatient and when he’s feeling good, he is RUNNING around the Ronald playing. The wound continues to look better and better, which we are very thankful for. Dr. L let us cut out an antibiotic on Friday and hopefully we’ll cut another one tomorrow. I’m hoping for the Lineozolid because I have to hang it on a pole three times a day for an hour. It’s better than making him drink 8mls three times a day of some pretty nasty tasting stuff, though.
We were watching a TLC show about a lady with a huge tumor on her leg. Eli said, “Dr. LaQuaglia is going to have to take that out.” Then he paused and said, “Hey, why didn’t Dr. LaQuaglia show me what my tumor looked like when he took it out?” 🙂 So now he has a question ready for Dr. L when he sees him tomorrow.
We continued to enjoy the company of my brother and his wife (Adam and Jo, a.k.a Uncle DoDo and Aunt JoJo) this weekend. They tried to leave today, but much like when they came, the weather wasn’t cooperating so their flight was delayed until tomorrow afternoon. Saturday was the day we took Adam and Jo to see the Museum of Natural History since we have a membership there. We hadn’t been there for quite a while, so Eli was having a good time pointing out the dinosaurs to everyone and playing “tag” with Lacey in the Ocean exhibit. On Saturday night, the Ronald and the 19th Precinct took 3 families to the Mets vs. Marlins game at Shea Stadium. We had Diamond View box seats between home and third base and it was indoors and catered. We also got picked up by a police van outside the door of the Ronald and was dropped off right by the gate at Shea, so now taking the Subway to Shea is going to be a real drag. The Mets won a great game, 8 to 6. We got to see Daniel Murphy’s first game with the Mets and he scored a 2 run HR! Eli had a fantastic time and at the end, Mr. Met even stopped by. I have some pictures here, but I’m sure an Animoto video is impending:
Sunday we went to the Central Park Zoo with some free passes from Candlelighters, NYC and then we went to The Metropolitain Museum of Art to see the Superhero exhibit. They had costumes on display from superhero movies that were actually worn for the film. We saw Tobey’s Spider-Man 3 costume, Christian’s Batman costume, Michelle’s Batwoman costume, Robert’s Ironman costume, and a costume from X-Men. Eli really liked it. We also took some time to check out the Egyptian wing.
So, we continue to ask prayers for Eli’s stomach pain and vomiting and that his little bowels will start working normally again. We are also praying that his wound will continue to heal well and that the 3F8 pain will decrease this week. Also, our buddy from Iowa with Medulloblastoma (Coleman) got a fever last night and is in the hospital in Ft. Dodge getting antibiotics. That delayed their trip to NY for a few days (hopefully no longer), so please pray that he can get released soon so he can get out here to NYC and get started right away on treatment! Thanks for checking in on us and praying for Eli and his cancer fighting buddies.
