Surgery

UPDATE – Surgery is a go. We are heading down soon…

A quick prayer request.

Eli was up all night last night with stomach pains and he was throwing up about every hour. We brought him in this morning and they ordered some abdominal xrays.

They came back 10 minutes later looking concerned and said that he appears to have bowel obstruction. Another 10 minutes later and Dr. LaQuaglia was there pushing on him and listening to him. He said he wanted to consult with radiology one more time, but that he felt like Eli would probably need surgery…..today.

He said it is likely that the bowels are twisted or blocked from surgery scarring and that the only way to fix it is to go in and empty them out and straighten things out by cutting him open from the front of his belly. He said he could feel loops and distension, so there is definitely something wrong. He thinks the bowels might also be telescoping into themselves, which is something that can happen after a major surgery like he had last October.

So needless to say, we won’t be heading to do stem cell harvest today and will likely be taking Eli to the surgery table instead. Not exactly what we expected to be doing today to say the least.

Our biggest comfort is that Dr. LaQuaglia is overseeing everything. We trust his judgment and his hands. Please pray that God will give Dr. LaQuaglia wisdom and steady hands today if he does indeed end up doing surgery on Eli. We are also hoping we won’t have to go across the street and spend too much time in the ICU, but that will be up to how well Eli recovers. Thanks for being on call to pray at a moments notice, we really appreciate it.

I’ll post more later after the surgery (which still might not be the way they decide to proceed, but I’d give it a 90% chance of happening today).
