Surgery went well

I tried to post from the waiting room this morning during surgery, but it lost my post, so I’ll summarize here.

Surgery went well, he was in the actual surgery for about 28 minutes. We were hoping for some funny comments when he got his “funny medicine” like last time, but he mainly just smiled and looked all around until his eyes rolled back into his head. After surgery, it took him a few hours to recover, but once he was eating and drinking ok, they discharged him.

Dr. LaQuaglia was commenting on the boys’ names. I told him that the next boy was going to be Habakkuk and he smiled, paused, then said, “You might want to reconsider that.” 🙂

On to the stressful news. The beta glucan didn’t make it today. We found out that it is stuck in customs. It comes from Norway and since it’s stuck in customs, we didn’t get started on it today as planned. We were stressing out about it and I think they very well knew that because they brought in the big guns to talk to us about the plan. Dr. Cheung (has lead the 3F8 studies for the last 20 years) met with us and said that we should be able to skip today’s dose and just add it to the end of the protocol. If we miss tomorrow’s (we really hope not), we’ll tack on 2 days. If it goes beyond that, we might be at risk of a week delay. So, please pray that the shipment will be released from customs and we’ll get to start the beta glucan tomorrow!

Eli is battling nausea, diarrhea, and pain in his chest where the new port was installed on the right side. After a nap today, he was actually in the playroom playing baseball, but tonight he’s pretty sore, so we broke out the Codine and will keep him on that for the next few days. As we were leaving the recovery room, Eli said, “I’m glad I have a port.” He couldn’t be more excited to be rid of those dangling tubes and to be able to swim and shower soon!

Thanks for all of the prayers today (and always)!
