What a week! Coming home, an impromptu trip to St. Louis, a birthday party, and another road trip to New York! Ok, so we’re not quite to NYC yet, but we’re halfway there. We don’t need to be in NY until Wed morning for Eli’s first GMCSF shot, but we decided to try to break the news of returning to NY to Eli softly by having something fun to do on the way. Our friend Arlice in Kansas heard about Eli’s wish to visit a dinosaur zoo and suggested the new %E2%80%9D”“Creation Museum†in Petersburg, KY which was created by one of my favorite resources, Answers in Genesis. It features lots of animatronic dinosaurs, which is right up Eli’s alley. Even better, it only extends our drive by 2 hours to come through Petersburg on our way to NY! So we decided that leaving for NY wouldn’t be so bad if Eli had the Creation Museum to look forward to.
As many of you know, we live down a gravel road that drifts really bad in the winter. Last year, we were snowed in for 3 days straight because that’s about how long it takes the snow plow to come down our particular road. When we came down our road last night, it was already drifting and I did some snow hopping with our rental car. 🙂 Last night I left a voicemail for a neighbor that has been known to plow our drive with his truck, telling him we wanted to leave around 8am this morning and would appreciate his help if he could. I got up at 7am to check the roads, but our driveway appeared impassable. As I was standing there debating what to do, I saw a sight that instantly brought praise to my lips. The county snow plow was actually coming down our road! And right behind him was none other than the guy with the green truck and snow plow to get our driveway scooped out. He said, “There’s no way I would have made it here if it hadn’t been for that snow plow. He saw me trying to make a path and decided to come down your road. You’d better get moving, you have about an hour or less before that path drifts back in and you’ll be stuck here.†We got in the car by 8am and thanks to those 2 guys, we had a path to the Interstate (where we saw dozens of cars in the ditch until Eastern Iowa). Wow, what a coincidence that all of that worked out, huh? We must be really lucky to have all of that work out perfectly by chance. 🙂
So, we pulled into our hotel in Florence, KY at around 8pm and have been enjoying some relaxing down time before tomorrow’s trip to the museum. If anyone is going to be staying near the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport, I highly recommend going to Priceline.com and putting in $25 for a 2 star hotel. We ended up with an Extended Stay with a full kitchen for $25 plus $10 in Priceline fees. It’s about 15 minutes away from the Creation Museum! So tomorrow we’ll check out the museum all day and maybe get a few hours drive under our belts towards NYC. We’ll finish out the drive on Tues and get settled back into our room at the Ronald.
A big thank you to everyone who came to Eli’s party on Thurs night. Another big thanks to everyone that stayed away because of being sick or being exposed to people who were sick. It was a great success and Eli truly had a fun time. He fell asleep on one of the couches around 6pm, but then after a nap was ready to go some more! It really was a birthday party to remember! Of course I had to make a video, what did you expect? 🙂
