“Things seem to be really improving.†That’s the common phrase we keep hearing from the various doctors and nurses that stop in. We agree. Especially in regards to his attitude! We seem to have our old Eli back. Here’s a quote from last night for your entertainment. “Hey dad, what’s this on my bottom lip? Is it peach fuzz? Have I been eating peaches or something to make my lip turn peachy?†Needless to say, I was rolling. He has grown “peach fuzz†everywhere including his head, back, and lip. I’m sure it’s a matter of time before it all falls out again. The eyelashes are already starting to shed once more.
Since he is still on some antibiotics, we have to let those play out. He also has to show that he can eat and drink ok on his own, which is starting to improve now that his mouth sores are going away. The official word is that they are shooting for the day before Thanksgiving for discharge. We’ll see. It would obviously be nice to be out of here by then. Eli took out his own NG tube yesterday. That’s his new thing; he wants to do it himself every time now. Also, as of this morning he is no longer neutropenic! Yeah! Of course, this means we need to be thinking about the next round of chemo, which means we need to make that final call on whether we’ll be doing it in Iowa City or New York. We hope to have that decision made in the next day or two.
I made another video last night, this time using pictures of Eli from the start of this whole battle with Neuroblastoma. The first video only contained pictures of Eli before the hospital visits. Hopefully you enjoy it, I had fun making it and I’m sure there will be more like this to come…
And don’t forget to leave Eli a voicemail! He loves it!
Also, be sure to cheer on our Cyclones today at 2:30pm (it’s on ABC, but not in NY)! We’re looking for a huge upset against No. 4 Kansas!
