Verizon

Ok, I’m sorry, but I’ve always thought that Eli’s new scar looked exactly like the new Verizon Wireless logo. Now that the dressings are off, you can decide. Am I right or what? For those curious, it goes onto his back and stops below his left shoulder blade. I think we should get some sort of sponsorship from Verizon (I think I’ll talk to my corporate Verizon rep about that).

Well, today’s x-ray showed that the fluid had gone down, but there is still some swelling in the stomach and upper GI. Eli has definitely felt better today. We took several LONG walks around the hospital and he did really well. He was really impressed with the cool pop machines (or soda as they call it here and most everywhere else) that you can watch “fetch” your 20 oz beverage and deliver it to the little side door. Yeah, we bought an extra one, I’m a pushover. He also charmed the lady in the gift shop enough that she gave him a free “crazy pen”. And by charmed, I mean he stood there looking at them with his big blue eyes and big bald head. We were on one of those walks when Dr. LaQuaglia stopped by to see us, but he actually caught us in the hall on the way back, so he took a second to feel Eli’s stomach and let us know that he thinks we should be able to remove the NG tube tomorrow and maybe get us to the Ronald McDonald house in the next few days, hopefully by the weekend. We’d hang out there over the weekend to make sure he’s doing ok, check back in with them on Monday, and then be free to go. That’s the theory, I won’t put that in writing yet. Although, I guess I kind of did. But you know what I mean.

Of course, the nurse had a slightly different story and said that the fluids had gone down, but there was still some air, so they might still do another x-ray tomorrow and possibly a CT scan just to make sure something isn’t physically wrong. The PICU doctor stopped by and agreed that we should stop the NG tube suction, but maybe not remove it quite yet since we wouldn’t have to put it back in on the poor kid. Whatever it takes, all I know is that Eli was feeling much better today and we got a lot accomplished, so that’s encouraging.

In my ongoing Zagat busting reviews of NYC cuisine, I decided to try the chicken gyro from the cart on 70th and York. Different cart, same food, shorter line. It was $.25 more expensive, but I have to say it was quite good. I am a big fan of lamb, so my 5 stars still go to the original gyro. I should have been born in New Zealand or Greece, I know. What will it be tomorrow? You never know. Maybe a knish. 🙂 Oh, hey, the Haagen-Dazs free ice cream cart is here, I gotta go. Hopefully more tomorrow!
